An intimate look at emotion, melancholy, and the stories behind the songs

Today we have the pleasure to have Bilgé here on Goathead.
GHR: Hi, it's very great to have you here. What inspired you to start writing music?
Bilgé: It was a need. I’ve always felt like I felt a lot, and it became a way of coping with all the emotions and feelings internally. It’s like knowing you have to say something, and the relief that comes once you put it out there.
GHR: Can you tell us more about your experience performing live at gigs? What was your most memorable experience?

Bilgé: I was doing a cover gig, and there was this song I wrote. I decided to play it. The crowd was amazed, and they kept asking for more originals. I think I saw someone almost cry. I remember thinking, this is so special. I should keep doing it.
GHR: What is your songwriting process like?
Bilgé: I usually write the melody first. I hum, and the lyrics follow. I sit in front of the piano or play my guitar to explore chord progressions, and then the melody comes. For lyrics, I keep a journal where I braindump everything. Sometimes I look back at it for inspiration.
GHR: What motivates you to create music and bring awareness to different situations through your songs?
Bilgé: That’s a hard one. Even though I’m generally a happy and calm person, my songs are mostly sad and melancholy. I like writing about mental health and the relationship with yourself. Of course, I write about breakups, but also about what’s happening around us.

My first single, “Smoke In The Air,” was about the current wars in our world and how frightening it can be on a personal level. I wrote it after seeing a news story about a toddler found washed ashore while fleeing from Turkey to Greece. It deeply affected me. At the time, I looked at my five-year-old brother and felt how unfair the world can be. I guess I write about anything that moves me.
GHR: Could you share some insights into your next projects?
Bilgé: I’m currently writing and recording myself, while also planning the visual direction of the next EP. I’ve been working with a guitar player who helped me record a couple of demos to shape the sound. Hopefully, I’ll be booking many shows after the release.
