The rising artist discusses songwriting as self-discovery, her unforgettable first performances, and the darker sonic direction behind her upcoming projects.
GHR: Hey Izavell, Great to have you here.
What inspired you to start writing music?
Izavell XIV: Thanks for having me. Writing music has always been something I’ve carried with me throughout my life. It’s become one of the most meaningful outlets for processing the thoughts, emotions, and experiences that live within me. Through songwriting, I’m able to shift my perspective, reflect on who I am, and gain a deeper understanding of myself. I chose to pursue music because of everything I’ve experienced throughout my journey. It’s more than just creative expression—it’s a tool for self-discovery, healing, and personal growth. Every song reveals something new about my inner world, helping me expand my awareness and connect with parts of myself I may not have otherwise understood. In many ways, music has become both my mirror and my teacher, continuously guiding me toward a greater sense of clarity, purpose, and elevation.
GHR: Can you tell us more about your experience performing live? What has been your most memorable performance so far?
Izavell XIV: I’ve only performed live twice in my life, and I’ve only been publicly releasing music for about a year. The first time I stepped on stage, I was definitely nervous. But the moment I felt the crowd’s energy, saw people gravitating toward me, and heard them cheering, something clicked. In that instant, I knew I was exactly where I was supposed to be.
The second performance felt even more meaningful because I was sharing my own music. It was an incredibly euphoric experience—seeing people connect with something that came directly from my heart. Watching audience members record the performance and engage with the music made me realize that this is the path I’m meant to follow.
What I love most about performing is witnessing people lose themselves in the art. Music has a way of transporting us beyond our everyday lives and into something deeper. I believe there’s always something waiting for us on the other side of that experience—a new perspective, a feeling, a realization, or a piece of ourselves we didn’t know we needed to find.
GHR: What does your songwriting process look like?
Izavell XIV: Personally, I like to think of songwriting as one of my superpowers. Ideas seem to come to me naturally, and no two creative experiences are ever the same. Sometimes I’ll hear a song that resonates with me, and it inspires me to expand on a feeling or thought because I relate to it on a deeper level. Other times, a melody will appear in my mind out of nowhere, and I feel compelled to bring it to life.
There are also moments when a single phrase will come to me, and suddenly I can hear an entire harmony, visualize the atmosphere, and feel the emotion behind it. From there, the song almost begins to reveal itself. Creativity feels less like something I force and more like something I channel. Every idea arrives differently, which is what makes the songwriting process so exciting and meaningful to me.
GHR: What motivates you to create music and bring awareness to different situations through your songs?
Izavell XIV: One of my greatest inspirations is the opportunity to contribute to the collective consciousness through my art. I draw from my own experiences and transform them into something that encourages reflection, self-awareness, and personal growth. Sharing those perspectives with my audience and helping others recognize the power of awareness is deeply meaningful to me.
At the core of everything I create is a genuine desire to connect, inspire, and remind people of the strength that comes from understanding themselves on a deeper level. Knowing that my music can spark that kind of realization in others is what keeps me grounded, passionate, and true to my purpose.
GHR: Could you share some insights into your upcoming projects?
Izavell XIV: Right now, I’m focused on finishing my album, XIV FOREVER, a project that captures many different sides of who I am as an artist. Looking ahead, my next body of work will lean more heavily into alternative and rock influences, embracing a darker, edgier, and more emotionally raw sound.
I’ve always enjoyed pushing creative boundaries, and with this project, I want to take the energy of electronic music and transform it into something more haunting, intense, and unpredictable. It’s a sound that feels both melodic and rebellious—drawing inspiration from grunge, alternative rock, and the complexities of personal experience.
Through this music, I want to explore themes of transformation, struggle, self-discovery, and empowerment in a way that feels unapologetically honest and emotionally charged.
