On Folklore, GavinDaVinci proves once again that he is both poet and producer, crafting songs that feel carved out of the Irish landscape itself. “Think Now Cry Later,” self-produced and haunting in its restraint, is one of the album’s most evocative moments. Strings stretch like open skies while percussion keeps the ground steady, creating a balance between melancholy and defiance.

The lyrics are heavy with imagery: “The soil is green, the waters are rising” and “Wolf skin kept warm, my sins, my karma on fringes” feel like fragments of folklore turned into diary entries. Gavin raps with a reflective cadence, not rushing his words but letting them breathe, as though each bar carries the weight of ancestry and personal reckoning.

The chorus — “Think now, cry later / Hold water, my saviour / My birthplace, my deathbed” — rings like a mantra, both spiritual and fatalistic. It’s a reminder that life’s contradictions — beauty and decay, hope and despair — are always intertwined. The repetition of “I was here” at the end is less boastful than it is grounding, a declaration of presence in a world that constantly threatens to erase.

“Think Now Cry Later” isn’t just a song, it’s a meditation: on identity, on loss, on the stubborn persistence of existing even when words fall short. In stitching together strings, drums, and his own voice, GavinDaVinci delivers something that feels timeless — a rap ballad as folklore, destined to echo beyond the moment.
