Singer-songwriter Jason Patrick X shares the story behind his music, the process that drives him, and what’s coming next.
Today we have the pleasure to have Jason Patrick X on Goathead!
GHR: Hi Jason, what inspired you to start writing music?
Jason: Thanks for having me ! That’s hard to say for sure. I’ve always had a creative mind, and I’ve had lots of musicians around me growing up. I guess it was inevitable the two would eventually collide. If I had to pick a moment, it was hearing a song my uncle wrote and recorded (he ran a home studio). It made me ask, “If he can do it, why can’t I?” That moment stuck. I guess I looked back after that.
GHR: How is your process of songwriting set around?
Jason: Sometimes it starts with a great title or a hook line of lyric. Sometimes I set out to write about something specific. But most of the time, it starts with a melody stuck in my head. I’ll dissect that melody, figure out what it's trying to say, how it feels — and then fill in that feeling with something familiar: a story, a belief, a commentary. It’s about finding truth inside the sound.
GHR: What motivates you to create music and bring awareness to different situations through your songs?
Jason: To me, the most crucial part is the feeling. What are you making the listener feel? If you’re not evoking something, then what’s the point? I try to pour my emotion into the message, but once it’s out, the song takes on a life of its own. People may feel something totally different — and that’s okay. Everyone hears it through their own reality. If it moves you, even if it’s not what I felt, then I’ve done my job.
GHR: What music are you releasing currently?
Jason: I’ve released three singles so far, and I’ve got an EP dropping on June 6th. It’ll include those three plus a brand new song. After that, I’ll be releasing three more singles monthly, followed by a second EP. Then in November, I’m dropping the full album Introspection, which includes everything plus four unreleased songs. GHR: Could you share some insights into your next projects?
Jason: Right now I’m deep into promoting this album and making sure the music reaches the right people. But I’m already beginning early work on my second album, Seduction. It’s going to explore a whole different sound and energy — can’t wait to share more.
