Today we have the pleasure to have the talented artist on Goathead
GHR: Hi Leftworld, great to have you here. What inspired you to start writing music?
Leftworld: Thanks for having me. When I was around six years old, I was hanging out with the older kids and happened to watch a Britney Spears concert. My mind was blown. All I wanted was music stuff and music toys. If I got good grades, I would get a CD at the end of the week. I asked for microphones, karaoke machines, anything related to music.
I wanted nothing more than music. I remember in sixth grade I was getting bullied and told myself that if I could write a song, it would make me feel better. Both my parents are music lovers. My dad would sit me down and break down songs lyrically. He told me that if I was going to write and be a songwriter, I had to be good. That stayed in my mind since he introduced me to a completely different music world.
When I was twelve, all I wanted was a new boombox and a specific CD. We went to the store, and I picked out a purple boombox and my CD. My dad had two CDs in his hand and said, you love music right, and I said yes. He said then trust me and get this one instead. We got to the car, he played the first song on the album, and my mind was blown again. I had to dig deeper and find more music. That same year I started writing real songs. I also received my first guitar for Christmas, and my love for music grew even more.
GHR: Can you tell us more about your recent singles and what you hope listeners take away from them?

Leftworld: I have been through so much that writing is the only thing that keeps me grounded. All my singles are what I call my soul talking or my source. My most recent song is Limerence, and it is probably my favorite. I wanted it to be simple and let the lyrics speak louder than the music.
Limerence is something every human goes through at least once, even if they do not realize it. It is about that soul connection with another person, but the human ego gets in the way and blocks love. At the end of the day love is the only thing we have. Even if physical connection is not available, other realms, energy, and source through God always are.
Chant was written during a moment when I felt hopeless about humanity, love, and God. Meeting someone who was so beautiful and wise changed my perspective completely. It started as a poem, inspired by ancient Sufi music, and became a dreampop song. It is about turning myself into a lamp so another lamp could find me.
GHR: How is your process of songwriting set around?
Leftworld: I do not have a specific process. Whenever I feel something or an idea or melody hits, I follow it. Sometimes I sit and say I am making a song, and I do. Sometimes it happens while I am trying to sleep, or in the shower, or when I am driving, or at three in the morning when I need to write it down so I do not forget.
Artists channel. We transform what we hear and feel into a song or a piece of art. Some songs come from lived experiences, but the ideas and melodies feel like they come from elsewhere. When my emotions connect with what arrives, a song comes out.
I like to say I have to write and make music or I will explode.
GHR: What motivates you to create music and bring awareness through your songs?
Leftworld: I chose the name Leftworld and became a concept artist because of how I see the world and how I interpret it. I have been through too much. Sometimes I wonder how I am still here.
I survived abuse. I survived drug addiction. I am also what I call a young widow at only thirty one. I was left with nothing but pain, my three dogs, my love for animals, and music. I deal with epilepsy, which has been the downfall of many plans.
Leftworld represents being unbalanced, being corrupted by left energy or the more masculine energy that causes collective suffering. My whole concept is about being human while knowing my soul is from elsewhere. I feel reincarnated as a human, experiencing ego and ego death, while remembering who we truly are.
I am a huge animal advocate. Humans forgot how beautiful it is to share this world with other living beings. Leftworld music is about remembering the childlike wonder this earth has forgotten. When I was six, I dreamed of being on stages and connecting with people through art. Now that dream lives in Leftworld. We are all Leftworld, crushed by the horrors of some humans, but also here to remind everyone that life is a dream. I grew up spiritual and obsessed with esoteric and ancient knowledge. I like to say I live in between worlds. I represent the other side, the one humans have forgotten. The veil hides it from our eyes, but we all feel it. I am here experiencing life in a Leftworld, just like everyone else. As an alien soul from elsewhere, I sing about what I go through being here as a human having the ultimate experience.
GHR: Could you share some insights into your next projects?

Leftworld: I want to release an EP that has been in the works, but life created delays. I have a song called Dreaming that I have performed many times. It is a love letter to my six year old self and to everyone else’s inner child.
“ When you are dreaming and you find yourself in love with the feeling of believing who you are
if it is not like that then go
Because there is nothing I want more
If it is not like that then go
Because there is nothing I want more
It is a risk worth taking
I am not far away
I am not far away
I am not far away from. “
When I perform it, I dedicate it to everyone’s inner child. People always connect with it the most. It is the clearest representation of why I call myself Leftworld.
I am Leftworld
you are Leftworld
we are all Leftworld.
