Today We Have The Pleasure To Have Matthew On Goathead

GH: What inspired you to start writing music?

Matthew Joseph: I love the creative process and my music tends to be very autobiographical. I am a very performative artist and love putting on a show/entertaining. And the writing wasn’t a huge part for me. However, when I got signed by a studio/label in London a few years into my career, I loved the writing process so much and never looked back. It’s cathartic to get all my feelings into a piece of work, it’s fun to me.

GH: Can you tell us more about your experience performing live at gigs and what was the most memorable experience you had?

Matthew Joseph: I’ve been performing and doing gigs for a few years now, mainly competitions and pride festivals. Last year, I did some big prides, including performing for 20k people headlining in Maspalomas main stage. That was so much fun and memorable. You can’t beat having a huge audience that engages with you; it’s electric!

GH: How is your process of songwriting set around?

Matthew Joseph: It’s super simple. I come up with a vibe and theme. I tend to write the chorus and the main lyrics and have a beat tune I love, and my producer Chris Hall does the producing around that idea. He’s amazing; I’ve worked with him since 2019 - he gets me as an artist, and we collaborate well together.

GH: What motivates you to create music and bring awareness to different situations through your songs?

Matthew Joseph: My life and love inspo and heartache are big themes I write about! Life gets me inspired, and however I’m feeling, I’ll put it into lyrics and a song. I love the whole process, and when I can envisage the final video, I know it’s a great track.

GH: Could you share some insights into your next projects?

Matthew Joseph: So my latest track is called Big Boy. And I have an EP coming out in March. I can’t wait. I wrote the track a few years ago about an ex not telling me the truth about cheating on me, and me saying I would much rather know the truth. Big boy is the lead single from my upcoming EP of the same name. The last few singles I've released have been about breakups, at different stages. And I thought it would be interesting to have them all in one listening place, in order of the stages/feelings over betrayal - the sadness heartbreak, anger, acceptance, and then finally the empowerment of moving on happily.

In addition to this Matthew Joseph is set to celebrate the EP's launch with a vibrant party in his hometown of Anglesey, North Wales. The festivities don't stop there, as he plans to embark on a mini UK tour, bringing his dynamic performances to fans across the country. With numerous major pride events already scheduled in the UK and Europe for 2024, Joseph sets his sights on a potential U.S. tour later in the year.
