Instinct, resilience, and purpose shaping a voice driven by Clarity

Today we have the pleasure to have Porcia Jones here on Goathead.
GHR: What inspired you to start writing music?
Porcia Jones: I remember being around four years old and already feeling pulled toward music, its frequencies, and the messages it carries. As children, we trust instinct more easily, and my instinct has always been to create and share. I received national writing awards despite growing up in a very poor area. My hometown ranks #1 in the US for childhood poverty. Through mentorship and staying in tune with myself, even with the odds stacked against me, I always knew I had a story to tell. I’m honored that I carried that belief into adulthood.

GHR: Can you tell us about your experience performing live and your most memorable moment?
Porcia Jones: As a teenager, karaoke became my stage. It was a no-cost way to perform. Everything was ready, all you had to do was step up to the mic. I used to get snuck into bars and sing once or twice a week. The most unforgettable moment was when my mom came to watch me sing. I was 16, illegally performing and drinking. That place could have gone dark, but the pride on my mother’s face could have lit up the entire room.
GHR: How is your songwriting process structured?
Porcia Jones: My songwriting is rooted in journaling and inspiration from other artists. I love Mihali’s lyrics. They resonate deeply with my soul. His writing is both profound and restrained. I revisit my journal entries, pulling lines from different moments, and suddenly everything connects. BOOM, a song is born. My most prized piece right now is my latest track, Clarity, which I’m aiming to release within the year. I do need sound engineering support if anyone feels called to collaborate.
GHR: What motivates you to create music and raise awareness through your songs?
Porcia Jones: My motivation comes from building community with like-minded souls. My music is meant to resonate and remind people who they truly are. It’s about showing that it’s not where you start, it’s where you end up. Living by example fills me with hope for healing, growth, and humanity’s future. Music is magic.
GHR: Could you share insights into your upcoming projects?
Porcia Jones: Right now my focus is finishing Clarity and releasing it into the world. Alongside that, I’m strengthening community connections through consistent social media presence and networking. Mostly, I’m staying aligned with my truth and purpose. Trusting the process.
