Blending raw emotion with synth-driven soundscapes, zekiizo is redefining the NYC underground.

Today we have the pleasure to have zekiizo here on Goathead.
GHR: Hey, so great to have you here ! What inspired you to start writing music?
zekiizo: Thanks for having me, I think the real inspiration was wanting to express myself at a young age. I grew up playing piano and writing songs on guitar in a more singer songwriter style. As I discovered electronic and alternative music that resonated deeply, I felt pulled to create in that space. Around 15, I started experimenting with GarageBand. Now I produce everything myself in Logic. Writing songs has become a way for me to mark the time, capturing a moment exactly as it is. As life shifts, the tracks stay, existing forever in their own way and to their listeners.
GHR: Can you tell us more about your experience performing live at gigs and what was the most memorable experience you had?

zekiizo: I started with just me, a tiny Akai mini, and a PA system, playing synths live over backing tracks. But I wanted something more dynamic. This past semester I formed a full band with keys, synths, leads, guitar, bass, and a live kit. It’s been an exhilarating shift, finally feeling that raw live energy behind my music. We're NYC based and planning a bunch of shows this summer, including a release show for my new album Final Fantasy.
GHR: How is your process of songwriting set around?
zekiizo: My process always starts with a need to create. Sometimes it’s lyrics from a random note, other times it starts with production. I never lock myself into one method. The best tracks usually come from short, high intensity creative sprints where everything just flows. I’ll often finish a rough mix within two hours. It’s all about energy and being in sync.

GHR: What motivates you to create music and bring awareness to different situations through your songs?
zekiizo: Emotional survival, honestly. I’m very private, but I feel deeply. Songwriting lets me say things I can’t always voice. It’s my way of communicating and processing. Each song is either a message for someone or a moment I need to remember.

GHR: Could you share some insights into your next projects?
zekiizo: Absolutely. I just released my album Final Fantasy, a 13 track concept album I’ve been building for two years. It’s the most electronic project I’ve done and definitely the most honest. It explores themes of love, sex, power, and authenticity. It came from a place of pain and it’s been amazing seeing how people connect with it. This is the first project I’m actively promoting and I’m excited to keep pushing it.
