GHR: When did you first start writing music?

Numi: I started writing music once I was able to obtain a physically and mentally calmer state of being. Music and the need for self-expression suddenly came to me in abundance, and I started looking inward and recognizing why I think the way I do. I discovered my love of composition and lyricism, and once I began that journey I felt like a door I never even knew existed had been opened.

GHR: What’s performing live like for you compared to recording in a studio?

Numi: Performing at gigs is not something I could ever equate to recording in a studio; the audience, the ambience, the eyes of everyone curious to hear what I have to say. I used to have a lot of performance anxiety, but over the years I am finding it easier to overcome. It's plain for me to see that when people come to hear my music, they want to get to know me and listen to my story, and that's what gives me the fuel to continue—that undeniable and entrancing connection with my listeners.

GHR: Can you tell us a bit about your songwriting process?

Numi: My songwriting process always starts with the melody. My comfort instrument is a guitar, and I often find myself strumming it to let go of some of my daily stressors. Sometimes, I come across a tune that paints the way I feel at that moment. If I find a melody that speaks to me, I start speaking back by writing lyrics that accurately reflect my emotions. I like to make sure that not only the lyrics themselves suit the style of what I'm going for, but that the pacing and placement of them within the song reflect the overall atmosphere.

GHR: What do you tend to write about?

Numi: I find that writing music for me is a way to call out my life for what it is—a constant, ever-changing, and bumpy journey. My songs ground me; they always have. They lay out my raw emotions, and help me navigate the more painful situations I find myself in. I like writing about both sides of the coin; the messier and the more heartwarming parts of my life, whether it be about anxiety and heartbreak, or whether it be about the love and gratitude I have for those who are closest to me. And I write all of this for anyone and everyone who can relate. That's why I want to share my music with the world.

GHR: Any upcoming releases we should look out for?

Numi: I am beyond excited to share my next project to come! My EP, On My Mind, is coming out on July 17th, and I can't wait for the world to hear it. So far, I've released three singles that cover the harder parts of life, so I'm happy to say that my final song is a happier one! This one is for my friends and family that I don't get to see every day because of time, distance, or just life, but it's also for anyone that needs a warm hug and any kind of moral support. Especially now, the world can be a little overwhelming and lonely at times, which I am by no means a stranger to. If this song (and any of my other ones) can help even one person who is struggling, that would be the most meaningful part of my musical journey thus far.
