Today we have the pleasure to have Drew on Goathead!

GH: Drew, your career has seen incredible growth and success. What has been the most defining moment or milestone for you so far?

Drew: It's difficult to pinpoint just one defining moment in my career, as there have been several significant milestones that have shaped my journey so far. However, I can highlight a few that have been particularly impactful.

The first milestone that stands out is attending an Ed Sheeran concert in 2018. Being in the presence of such a talented artist who had a profound influence on my musical aspirations was a transformative experience. It solidified my passion for music and served as a pivotal moment of realization, where I knew that pursuing music full-time was my true calling.

Another defining moment occurred when I released my debut single in November 2020. Seeing my own song on various music platforms and witnessing people listen to and appreciate my music was a surreal experience. It was a culmination of hard work, dedication, and belief in my craft. That feeling of validation and connection with listeners is something I will always cherish.

Each milestone along the way has contributed to my growth as an artist, shaping my perspective, and fueling my determination to continue pushing boundaries and pursuing my artistic vision. While these moments are significant, I believe that the journey itself, with all its ups and downs, is what truly defines my career. It's a continuous process of growth, learning, and creative exploration that keeps me inspired and motivated to reach new heights.

As I reflect on my career thus far, I'm grateful for these defining moments and the opportunities they have provided. They serve as reminders of the progress I've made and the potential that lies ahead. I'm excited to continue this journey, embracing new milestones and experiences that will shape my artistry and connect with audiences around the world.

GH: How would you describe the emotional journey that your single, "Love Me Back," takes listeners on?

Drew: "Love Me Back" takes listeners on an emotional journey rooted in the complexities of unrequited love and the delicate balance between friendship and romantic feelings. The song was inspired by my own personal experiences and reflects a situation many of us have encountered at some point in our lives.

The emotional journey begins with the realization of developing deeper feelings for someone who was initially just a friend. It explores the inner conflict and turmoil that arise when grappling with whether or not to reveal these emotions. There's a delicate dance between the desire to express these newfound feelings and the fear of jeopardizing the existing friendship.

As the song unfolds, listeners are immersed in a range of emotions—longing, uncertainty, and vulnerability. The lyrics and melodies capture the yearning for reciprocation, the longing for the person to see and understand the depth of our emotions. It's a rollercoaster of hope and hesitation, as we navigate the intricate dynamics of friendship and unrequited love. The song's emotional journey resonates with listeners who have experienced similar situations, evoking a sense of empathy and relatability. It invites reflection on our own past or current experiences, allowing us to delve into the complexities of human relationships and the myriad emotions they entail.

GH: Your music often delves into personal experiences and emotions, chapters of life you call them. Can you share any specific inspiration or story behind the lyrics of your songs?

Drew: Absolutely! My music has always been deeply intertwined with personal experiences and emotions. When I first started songwriting, I would often draw inspiration from imagined scenarios, or occasionally find creative sparks from movies or shows. However, it wasn't until the past four years that I began delving into my own feelings and the events happening around me. Two specific songs, "Maybe Later" and "Love Me Back," emerged from these personal experiences. They were born out of moments that resonated deeply within me, capturing the essence of certain situations and emotions I encountered. These songs became the initial chapters of my life, marking a turning point in my songwriting approach.

It was during a challenging period when I was grappling with anxiety and depression that I began referring to these songs as chapters. Music became my refuge and an outlet for expressing my innermost thoughts and struggles. However, at one point, I reached a juncture where I almost gave up on music entirely. Fortunately, a dear friend came to my aid, offering unwavering support and encouragement. Their presence and belief in me gave me the strength to persevere and continue pursuing my musical journey. Inspired by this experience, I realized that each song I crafted after that pivotal moment represented a new chapter in my life—distinct segments that unfolded and mirrored my personal growth and resilience.

As I progressed, my focus shifted towards embracing rawness and honesty in my lyrics, aiming to create a sense of relatability for listeners. I wanted my songs to serve as windows into the various chapters of my life, capturing genuine emotions and real-life situations that others might find solace and connection in. By infusing my music with personal experiences and emotions, I strive to create a genuine and authentic connection with my audience. I believe that sharing these chapters of my life not only helps me process my own feelings but also allows listeners to find solace, empathy, and inspiration in their own lives. So each song I write now represents a unique chapter—a poignant snapshot of a specific moment, emotion, or experience in my life. By embracing vulnerability and embracing the power of storytelling, I hope to continue resonating with listeners and creating music that speaks to the human experience.

GH: Your new single, "New Life," has generated a lot of anticipation. Can you give us a sneak peek into the theme or message that the song carries?

Drew: "New Life" carries a heartfelt and deeply personal theme that holds a special place in my heart. The song originated from a period of introspection and self-discovery, where I found myself yearning for a fresh start and a break from the realities of life. In June 2022, the idea for "New Life" took shape as I contemplated the possibility of starting everything over again and escaping the burdens that weighed me down.

However, fate had a different plan in store for me. In September 2022, I experienced a profound panic attack that shook me to my core, leaving me feeling hopeless and consumed by constant anxiety. At that point, the prospect of returning to India and seeking solace with my parents seemed like the only viable option.

But then, a ray of hope appeared in the form of a dear friend. Their unwavering presence and support became a lifeline during this challenging period. It wasn't necessarily a grand gesture or specific action they took, but simply their companionship and understanding that brought me solace and strength. The song "New Life" emerged as an ode to this friend, a heartfelt expression of gratitude for their impact on my life.

At its core, "New Life" is a testament to the power of love and hope. It serves as a tribute to the friend who lifted me up when I needed it most, reminding listeners of the profound impact one person's presence can have during times of struggle. Through this song, I hope to convey the importance of cherishing those who offer support and empathy, emphasizing the transformative and healing power of genuine human connection.

"New Life" encapsulates the journey from despair to gratitude, ultimately serving as a celebration of love and the newfound hope that emerged from a dark period in my life. I'm excited to share this deeply personal song with the world and invite listeners to find solace, inspiration, and a renewed sense of appreciation for the relationships that uplift us in our own journeys.

GH: As an artist, how do you feel your upcoming single, "New Life," showcases your artistic growth and evolution compared to your previous works?

Drew: "New Life" represents a significant milestone in my artistic growth and evolution. It showcases a departure from my previous works in both the writing and sonic aspects. One of the notable differences lies in the captivating lyrics that define a compelling storyline. I aimed to create a memorable and infectious song that resonates with listeners on a deep level.

Musically, I intentionally crafted "New Life" to capture the essence of springtime. By infusing the composition with elements that evoke the freshness and vitality associated with this season of new beginnings, I aimed to create a relatable and immersive experience for the audience. From the moment the song starts, with the subtle background noise transporting you to a serene park or a picturesque beach at sunset, it sets the scene and stirs the listener's imagination.

The artistic growth showcased in "New Life" extends beyond its individual elements. This song represents a deliberate shift in my creative direction, setting the tone for the music that people can expect from me in the future. It signifies my commitment to exploring new sounds, pushing boundaries, and embracing a sense of innovation while staying true to my artistic identity. I take great pride in the creation of "New Life" and the way it represents my evolution as an artist. It captures the spirit of optimism and excitement that accompanies new beginnings, inspiring listeners to embark on their own journeys of personal growth and transformation. I'm thrilled to share this song with the world and offer a glimpse into the exciting musical landscape that lies ahead.
