Today we have the pleasure to have Michael Paul Binz here on Goathead.

GHR: What inspired you to start writing music?

MPB: It started with emotion—moments in time that left an imprint. I’ve always been drawn to the way certain experiences, people, or even historical eras can stir something deeper. Writing music became a way to process all of it. Each song reflects a feeling, a season, or a turning point.

GHR: Can you tell us more about your experience performing live at gigs and what was the most memorable experience you had?

MPB: One that sticks with me was playing a set at a jewelry store in Nashville. We catered the event ourselves and really built it from the ground up. The owners and staff treated us like family. It was intimate, and it reminded me why I do this.

GHR: How is your process of songwriting set around?

MPB: I usually start with a single idea or emotion I can’t shake. I break it down—time, place, feeling—and build from there. Once I find the chorus and the title, everything else follows. Verses, bridges, tone. The final words usually keep evolving right up until recording.

GHR: What motivates you to create music and bring awareness to different situations through your songs?

MPB: I like telling stories—but only if they move me. If I don’t feel something while I’m singing, I scrap it. That feeling is the whole point.

GHR: Could you share some insights into your next projects?

MPB: A few are pretty different from what I’ve done before. We’re not sticking to a strict format—just chasing whatever feels good. Some of the new songs are even inspired by films. It’s all in motion right now, aiming for a release later this year.
